Painted Love Bird Tray

I had a lady contact me to create a special Christmas gift for her sweetheart...

I only took pics with my phone
AND I forgot to take good "after" pics before I sent it off
but wanted to share it with you anyway

She wanted me to create a painted wooden serving tray...

She said she brings her husband breakfast in bed every morning
and she wanted a special tray for their daily ritual.....
how sweet and romantic is that?

This couple loves the lovebird motif
and she wanted to incorporate them in the design.
She also gave me a color palette to use...

She asked me to include these words on the tray...
"Good Morning Honey, guess what we get to do today?"

The answer being...we get to be together :)

I painted the bottom too...

....added dots and stripes to the sides

Sweet love birds....

It was so much fun creating something so unique and meaningful for this couple

...these in red.

red canvas stockings
I started with plain canvas stockings...
don't forget to put a plastic bag on the inside
in case the paint seeps through

I've done many projects where I paint on fabric
and I use the same technique on these stockings.

Sea turtle...

I lightly drew an outline of my placement for the main designs
with white chalk which is then covered by the paint.

If any chalk remains, I use a dry Mr. Clean magic eraser
and it wipes right off.

All of these designs are nothing more than a series of dots.
I use the end of different size paintbrushes to make the dots...

Hand Painted Christmas Ornaments Animal Print, Checks, Dots and Swirls

They are big ornaments! MUCH bigger than the ornaments I recently painted
for a Pet Shop, but still fun and funky

Here they are primed.
I found them at a designer closeout sale and they were painted in a matte gold.
They are thick, hard plastic and about 12 inches long.
They were also missing the hanger piece when I found them.

I added a wooden knob and screw eye to replace the hanger.
Here they are in process...
avert your eyes from my messy looking work space.

Then the fun began painting all the different
patterns and designs....

The lovely and talented Mary over at
how I get my checks so straight...?
Well...If you look closely, you will see that
they are not perfect by any means.
I don't draw it out before but just go for it and
somehow the overall effect looks straight-ish  haha

Stripes, dots and swirls...
I paint most of my dots with my fingertip

Gotta have animal print in there too....

More checks...

There are 11 ornaments...

...all different combos

all Sold

Quick and Easy Cat Face Pumpkin Carving with Rotozip Power Tool

Kitty Pumpkin

I've even used the Rotozip on  foam pumpkins easy!

I decided to use it again this year...

rotozip spiral saw pumpkin carving
The Rotozip is a spiral saw power tool and I use it a lot
for detailed cutting in wood or...pumpkins :)

cut a hole in bottom of pumpkin
The last few years I've been cutting a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin
instead of making the little lid , then I set the carved pumpkin over a candle...
that's much easier to me.

I drew a quick freehand design of a kitty face and started cutting

I used a silver sharpie to draw the face on the pumpkin...
that's what those silver marks are you see on the face

Scoop out the inside and it's done!

carve a pumpkin with power tools
It only took about 20 minutes start
to finish and that's including the cleaning part

Table Leg and Picture Molding Dragonflies

I just finished a new batch of my table leg dragonflies

You can see the others I've made HERE and HERE,
and also a giant butterfly I made HERE

Someone gave me these beautiful corner picture molding
sample pieces and I thought they would make
great wings for a new group of dragonflies
since the others have all sold

I started with spindles and table legs...

For each one I cut back piece from plywood, glued
the molding pieces to that, then screwed
the entire wing piece into the table leg "body".

I like to add the hanging hooks off center so the dragonfly
will be at an angle when hanging on the wall

This is a "before" shot of a few...
I planned on using most of the existing finishes on the
molding since they are all so pretty

I added finial pieces on the ends of some of the dragonflies

I made a variety of sizes...

...and colors

....and for most, I did try to use the existing molding colors

...a black one...

isn't that molding cool?

green and gold...

...neutral with metallics....

On this one the molding pieces are different sizes
but I think it adds to the uniqueness

Depending on the spindle/table leg I was using,
I either cut the molding to fit to the table leg, or...

....I butted the molding against the leg
like the pic above

love all those different designs

I used random metal doodads for the eyes...

and wire for the antenna

Have I mentioned how awesome all this molding is?...

There were 9 in this batch
